NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

About the NSS

The National Service Scheme is an Indian government sector public service program conducted by the “Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports” of the Government of India. It was launched on 24th September in the year 1969, across 37 universities with the enrollment of more than 40,000 students.

Dr. Vijayendra Kasturi Rangavarada Raja Rao garu . He was an Indian economist , politician and educator. He is also called and “THE FATHER OF NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME”. The motto of NSS is “NOT ME BUT YOU”, which reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need of self-less service and shows the welfare of the society on the whole. The logo of the NSS is based on the giant Rath Wheel of the famous Konark Sun Temple (The Black Pagoda)situated in Orissa , India. This wheel portrays the cycle of creation , preservation and release , and signify the movement in life across time and space

Aim:

The main aim of the NSS is to develop students personality through community service. It also helps to identify the needs , problems and resources of the community.

The National Service Scheme was established at Sardar Patel College , Padmarao Nagar , Secunderabad in 1976. The main objective of establishment of this scheme in the college is to gain skills in mobilizing community participation ; to acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude and to practice National Integration and social harmony.The NSS was started with one unit and now it has two units as Unit:1 and Unit:2 with around 60 students in each unit. Therefore it has around 120 volunteers in the college.
